The captains represent the body of conception and of direction of the national police force. They are recovering from the ministry of the Interior.
They run their services, operational and organic responsibility of which they take.

External competition : opened to the persons of French nationality, 35-year-old in most on January 1st of the year of competition (possibility of making postpone the date until 37 or 45 years).

Internal competition : opened to the civil and military civil servants, to the agents of the State, of the regions with a measure of autonomy, of a state-owned company or of an intergovernmental international organisation, 44-year-old in most on January 1st of the year of competition. Training : it lasts two years to the upper national School of the police of Saint-Cyr-au-Mont-d' Or (69), alternating practice in school and active services. She is subjected to the commitment to stay in the service of the State during seven years as from permanent staff status. At the end of one year,
the pupils are named captains trainees. They are confirmed in a post at the end of internship if they gave satisfaction. Their allocation is function of rank of classification and of available posts.
Status : State civil service, category A, course of study civilises security .
Remuneration : 1 567 net euro for the pupils, 2 904,53 net euro at the beginning of career.
Professional evolution : Chief Superintendent (at the end of nine years of active service), inspector general or general inspector.
Become policeman
The policemen are recovering from the body of command of the national police force. They take operational command of services and expertise in police and internal security. They back the commissioners up and can run some services. Training : 18 months within the upper national School of the policemen, in Canes-locks, alternating practice in school and real services. She is subordinated to the commitment to stay five years in the service of the State. At the end of six months, the pupils become first lieutenants trainees. Permanent staff status intervenes at the end of schooling. Allocation depends on the rank of classification and on the available places. The first allocation lasts 5 years. The minimal length of maintaining in the first job is of 2 years.
Status : State civil service. Category A, course of study civilises security
Remuneration : 1 367 net euro for a pupil, 2 140,32 net euro at the beginning of career.
Professional evolution : captain at the end of 5 years, then commanding at the end of 12 years. Possibility of introducing, inside, attache's competitions of the ministry of the Interior and of captain.
Become patrolling policeman
They form the body of supervision and of application of the national police force. They participate in the missions of the active services of the national police force. They can also work within state-owned companies put under the supervision of the ministry of the Interior.
The body is constituted of four ranks : patrolling policeman, corporal, army rank between corporal and sergeant, corporal-major. Most grad s supervise the subordinated echelons, a patrolling policeman can supervise an assistant of security.

Competition opened to the assistants of security, option national police force : after one year of activity or at the end of the course of younger of the Republic, option national police force .
Competition is also opened to the assistants of security who stopped their activity for one year.
Training : 12 months in national school of police or training centre of the police, which alternate practice in school and to services. She is subordinated to the commitment to stay
4 years in the service of the State after permanent staff status. At the end of the training, the pupils are named patrolling policemen trainees for one year. Internship can be extended from three months to one year.
If they are capable, the trainees are confirmed in a post.
The first allocation depends on rank of classification and on available posts.
The change of allocation intervenes 5 years after nomination as trainee.
This first allocation is most often made in services of public security in province or in the prefecture of police of Paris. The patrolling policemen there
missions of surveillance and of security, of assistant and assistance to the persons, of road traffic, of guard and of protection, missions of detective police forces cope and of research of information. However, 5 - 10 % of these first posts are made in the republican companies of security (FRENCH RIOT SQUADS) to assure missions of public order or of road police.
Status : State civil service. Category C, course of study civilises security
Remuneration : 1 375 net euro during the training, 1 765,06 net euro at the beginning of career (Paris region).
Professional evolution : in the seniority, access to the rank of corporal. Access to the internal competitions of the different bodies of the national police force.
Future adds security
The assistants of security are not tenured agents of public law recruited in the departmental echelon for a maximum not renewable length of 5 years. Supervised by the active civil servants of the national police force, they compete to the missions of public service of the security of the persons and of property. They participate in the local contracts of security. They assure activities of reception, of assistance and of prevention.
Competition : opened to the old persons from 18 years to 26 years, of French nationality, good morality, fulfiling physical, official conditions with regard to national service. No certificate is demanded.
Training : 12 weeks in national school of police (E.N.P). or training centre of the police (C.F.P).. Accommodation in boarding school is free, only restoration is supported by the pupil. At the end of the school, the laureate is affected in one of the services of the department where he postulated.
ADS benefits of 500 h from adult continuing education in the course of its service. She becomes divided into two lessons : a compulsory training in the field of physical and professional activities and of specific trainings according to the needs of the service of allocation, which are intended to prepare it for evolutions of its job and for possible changes of employment. ADS gets a certificate of activity itemised to expand its curriculum vitae.
Besides, at the end of one service year, the assistant of security benefits from the individual right to the training (20 hours a year) to follow evolutions of job or to acquire new skills.

Remuneration : the assistant of security is paid on the basis of the GUARANTEED MINIMUM WAGE, to which is added an indemnification of financial year of functions poured monthly (150 euro for those of the region Ile-De-France and 60 euro for the province).
Professional evolution : ADS gets a certificate of level CAPE called supplementary mention safety of open spaces to the public thanks to VAE. He allows the access to some jobs of private security as well as to competitions of the civil service (notably the city police).Since 2005, this device was enlarged in the certificates of level IV and III (Receptacle, LOW VOLTAGES).
